Vista High School near San Diego rose above the COVID-19 crisis to win the prestigious California ProStart Cup Culinary Competition during the first (and hopefully last!) virtual competition among high school culinary programs across the state.
The annual “live” cooking competition had to quickly pivot in March to a virtual contest when stay-at-home orders were announced. While 250 culinary students were disappointed they couldn’t compete after months of practice, the California Restaurant Association Foundation (CRAF) says many teams quickly jumped into the virtual contest.
The teams submitted lengthy essays and cooking plans of how they planned to prepare their dishes in lieu of actually being able to show off their skills to judges.
Virtual versions of Management Cup and Innovation Cup competitions were also hosted by CRAF.
Congratulations to all teams for their perseverance during this challenging time! Watch the CRAF Awards Ceremony video for all the details.
